Who we are

HumanGayMale is a UK not-for-profit company limited by guarantee. Our mission is to advance the rights, wellbeing and community life of gay men. We are committed to protecting your personal data and handling it responsibly and transparently.

What personal data we collect

We collect only the personal information necessary to operate the organisation, including:

  • your name and email address when you join our mailing list or become a member;
  • volunteer information (name and contact details);
  • event attendance information;
  • any messages or information you choose to send us.

Because membership is limited to gay men, we process special category data (sexual orientation) on an implicit and minimal basis, solely for the purpose of operating a gay male organisation.

How we collect data

We collect data when you:

  • sign up to our mailing list or membership;
  • register for events;
  • volunteer with us;
  • contact us via email or website forms.

We use trusted third-party services to help run the organisation, including:

  • Mailchimp (mailing lists);
  • Google Workspace (secure administration and volunteer coordination);
  • Eventbrite (event ticketing and registration);
  • crowdfunding or donation platforms (fundraising).

These services act as data processors and store data securely on our behalf. We do not receive or store payment card details.

Why we use your data

We use personal data to:

  • administer membership and mailing lists;
  • organise events, volunteers and activities;
  • communicate with members and supporters;
  • manage donations made via third-party platforms;
  • operate, develop and protect our community.

We do not sell personal data or pass it to third parties for marketing purposes.

Our lawful basis for processing

We process personal data under the following lawful bases:

  • Legitimate Interests — for membership administration, communications, events and organisational activity;
  • Consent — where you have opted in to receive email communications;
  • Article 9(2)(d) UK GDPR — for not-for-profit organisations processing special category data about their members with appropriate safeguards.

Website use and cookies

When you visit our website, limited technical information may be collected automatically through cookies or analytics tools to help us understand how the site is used and to improve its performance. This information does not usually identify you personally. For more details, please see our Cookie Policy.

How long we keep your data

We keep personal data only for as long as necessary to operate the organisation. You can unsubscribe from communications or ask us to delete your data at any time.

Your rights

You have the right to:

  • access your personal data;
  • correct inaccurate data;
  • request deletion of your data;
  • restrict or object to processing;
  • withdraw consent at any time.

To exercise these rights, please contact us at: info@humangaymale.com.
We will respond within one calendar month.

How to complain

If you have concerns about how we handle your data, please contact us first. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at www.ico.org.uk.
